Amida Umesh FreyAssociate
Amida comes from a professional background as interesting as it is diverse. Amida began his foray into a professional career by founding several companies in Florida dealing with investment and trade in the late 1990’s. Having successfully managed and later sold these companies, Amida shifted his focus to work in Asia.
Living and working in Japan from 2004 to 2006, Amida became involved with the daily workings of a local government agency and also assisted with many of the functions of that agency. Amida later branched off into teaching and translation work for the local Board of Education Office. Upon his return to the U.S., Amida pursued his graduate work which entailed a brief stint in Washington D.C.
Having a strong background in environmental policy from his undergraduate education, fostered by his time working for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington D.C. in 2007, Amida became grounded in many aspects of environmental law, litigation, and government.
Shifting some of his focus in 2011, Amida interned with the honorable Judge Angel Cortinas at the Third District Court of Appeal in Miami, Florida. During his time there, Amida assisted with legal research and the drafting of various memoranda of law, covering topics including commercial litigation, contract disputes, and criminal law, among others.
Amida graduated from Eckerd College in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, earning Highest Honors with Distinction and Environmental Fellowship Honors. Amida later earned his Master of Science in Environmental Studies as well as his Juris Doctor from Florida International University in 2010 in a dual degree program, obtaining Dean’s List status several times throughout the duration of both programs. At Florida International University, Amida was an acting board member of both the Environmental and International Law Societies.
In the near future, Amida looks forward to advancing his practice actively in the fields of commercial litigation and foreclosure defense. In his personal life, Amida is also an active board member of the Florida Native Plant Society and the Palm Society here in Dade County, and is an avid volunteer for various horticultural non-profits and other community outreach entities.
